For a number of years The Wellington Irish Festival Trust organized or supported a variety of events associated with Irish Culture. These events were social, cultural or sporting. It was a charitable, non-profit making Trust, with funding by donations from committee members, business sponsors and other charitable trusts. The Trust was also supported by the Wellington City Council.
The Trust worked in closely with the three local Irish Societies, as a co-ordination point for their various activities associated with the celebration of St Patrick's Day.
However, the Trust has now ceased to operate. In its place the three local Societies have taken upon themselves the task of continuing to celebrate the role of the Irish in New Zealand society.
For more details of the Festival, or sponsorship opportunities, contact one of the local Societies.
Trust members who served at various times included:
Peter McGuinness
Ted Ramsbottom
John Walsh
Jim Bowler
Barry Doyle
Fran Wilde
Bill Brien

John Brophy
